About Lasting Voice

It all started with a chat at a picnic table in the garden at Temple Habonim in Barrington, Rhode Island. Marc Braunstein and Rabbi Howard Voss-Altman were talking about how wonderful it would be to record and preserve the voices of the synagogue’s older members. After a few months of discussing ways to go about it, the first ‘Voices’ were produced, and the Rabbi introduced the idea to the Congregation at large with this stirring message.

Lasting Voice is a not-for-profit organization, presently under the auspices of the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island. Our mission is straightforward: to preserve the memories, beliefs and (most importantly) the voices of our elders which would otherwise be lost to family, friends, and future generations. Lasting Voice is for everyone, and at no cost

Lasting Voice works in partnership with Rhode Island synagogues and Jewish community organizations. However, we plan to offer the service in other parts of the U.S. as soon as possible. We measure our success in a direct and simple way… by the number of Voices we record and the number of lives we touch.

We’d be honored if you would join us, either by becoming a Lasting Voice yourself, by volunteering your time to interview, or by your generous donation.
